You will be able to find a good contact juggling tutorial on any of the many juggling sites you find on the internet. You may have to shell out around twenty bucks to get it, don’t forget about shipping and handling.
Another way to get a good contact juggling tutorial is to maybe go on YouTube to see what you can find. Since I know there is probably something for everyone on YouTube and juggling is something that is very visual then I am sure you will be able to find what you need there.
Other sites like article directories that also post videos should be able to point you in the right direction as well. eHow has great tutorials for you to watch and learn how to do the butterfly trick and the fake butterfly trick.
The tutorial that I viewed took me through step by step starting with just learning how to balance the ball in and on my hand. I am by no means a juggler but even I was able to learn this trick in just a few minutes.
Also called dynamic manipulation, contact juggling is an art form that requires you to keep the ball or balls in contact with some part of your body at all times while performing the trick.
The ball you use should be about the size of an orange and have a decent weight to it. A solid acrylic juggling ball should do nicely. That is what these types of balls are made for so just get a starter set of three acrylic balls to get going.
If you have small hands, you may need to use a slightly smaller ball to have the control you need to do the tricks. Let’s learn the Butterfly trick together, shall we?
Learning to balance the ball on the backs of your fingers is quite easy and should take no time at all to master. This move is called the ‘cradle’ and is one of the fundamentals in contact juggling. If you can’t so this, you can’t move up to other parts of the Butterfly trick.

Try tossing the ball and catching it in the cradle position. This will let you get a good feel for the ball and the position of it on your hand. Don’t just let the ball come to you though, throw the ball up in the air and when it starts to come down reach up and begin your catch above your head then follow it down til the ball and your hand is in front of your body.
Next, let the ball roll slowly out of the cradle and into your palm. This is accomplished by keeping your elbow as stationary as you can as your hand and forearm moves in an arc and just letting the ball roll from the back of your hand over the tips of your fingers into the palm of your hand.
This will take some practice to master but with some diligence, you should be able to learn this in just a few minutes. If you are having trouble with this then spread your forefinger away from your middle finger to give you a little better control and just keep practicing.
You will need to learn to do this with both hands to perform the Butterfly successfully. Using these tips and finding an easy to follow, step-by-step contact juggling tutorial will have you juggling like a pro in no time.
